On December 10, 2025, the fourth conference “Citizen Energy Communities – People and the Environment Before Profit”, organized by the RESET Center for Sustainable Energy Transition and the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Sarajevo and Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Belgrade foundations, was held in Sarajevo.
The conference brought together energy experts from the private and public sector and higher education. The panels were attended by experts from institutions and organizations such as the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo, the Electric Industry and the Center for Energy and Ecology.
In addition to moderating the first panel, our programme director, Aleksandar Macura, participated as a speaker in the panel discussion “Civil energy as a tool to fight energy poverty”. In the conversation, panelists indicated once again that direct contact with energy-poor households is the only way to prepare and implement measures to improve energy efficiency in their households. Energy communities and energy sharing organized and implemented by communities can be a tool to reduce energy poverty. In order for this tool to be successful, it will be necessary to invest knowledge, which is still scarce and unevenly distributed.
The participants agreed that in order to increase and use such knowledge, cooperation between participants from the governmental, non-governmental and business sectors is crucial.
