Last year, a joint initiative was underway in Serbia to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy poverty among households, with a special focus on socially vulnerable households with children. The project was part of the joint UN programme “Green Future, Brighter Beginnings” which concerned the localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for climate resilience and children’s rights in Serbian municipalities, supported by the UN Joint Sustainable Development Goals Fund and implemented by UNICEF, UNEP and UN Habitat. The goal of the programme was to ensure that the benefits of energy efficiency and climate resilience reach even the most vulnerable families and children, contributing to local progress in achieving sustainable development goals and stronger social protection.

As part of the program, we created the brochure “Energy efficiency and socially vulnerable citizens – support and protection measures”, which should serve as a guide for energy vulnerable customers – it defines the criteria and conditions for acquiring the status of energy vulnerable customer, lists the steps to achieve that status and the rights that energy vulnerable citizens have, but also provides a series of practical advice and useful information regarding public calls, programmes and measures aimed at improving the position of households defined as energy vulnerable.

The content and views presented in the brochure do not necessarily reflect the views of the United Nations, UNICEF, UNEP and UN Habitat, as well as the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
