As part of the “LINK – network for local low-carbon development” project, the Center for Ecology and Energy, in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation, organized the “Energy Transition and Citizen Energy” conference.

The conference discussed energy transition in local communities, as well as procedures, laws and institutional frameworks for the development of civic energy in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Gathering had special importance due to presentations by representatives of more than ten local self-governments from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, who presented their activities in the field of energy transition and civic energy, as well as the challenges and problems they face in practice.

On behalf of of RES Foundation, Filip Blagojević, together with Nikola Blagojević from the Vojvodina Mountain Movement, presented the work of the Network of Good Energy. Within the framework of the presentation, they presented the context oof the Network’s creation, the projects it implemented, as well as the goals it contributed to in various social and energy circumstances.

Filip Blagojević also referred to projects that RES Foundation will continue to develop, built on the previous work of the Network of Good Energy. The continuation of the work on the Atlas of Good Energy, a tool that will present local self-governments from the point of view of local energy, energy needs, potential and challenges, was particularly highlighted. The Atlas will represent an important tool as a form of support in the implementation of the energy transition and the development of civic energy at the local level, as well as an important resource for a better understanding of local energy conditions.

In addition to the conference part, the participants had the opportunity to visit examples of good practices in the field of local energy transition. During the field visits, the wastewater treatment plant in Teslić, as well as the solar power plants at the water source in Tešanj, were presented. On that occasion, the participants also visited the Tešanj fortress.

The conference represented a significant opportunity for the exchange of experiences between local self-governments, civil society organizations and experts from the region, with the aim of strengthening local capacities for a just, sustainable and accessible energy transition for citizens.
